Tampa, Florida, November
2007 – The California State Department of Motor Vehicles
(CA DMV) awarded
Fairfax Imaging, Inc.
a contract to develop and maintain a forms and remittance
processing solution. The system must process well over
300,000 incoming mail pieces per day, containing
automobile registration renewals and related
documentation. Fairfax Imaging will be the prime
contractor for this project and will provide the
development and integration for the entire solution.
Fairfax Imaging will
install its award winning imaging and data-capture
platform Quick Modules, which is scalable and
tailor-able to meet the validation requirements.
“It’s not only high
volume; the CA DMV needs a system that can carry out
complex validations with their driver information
databases and then respond in diverse ways to the
captured data,” said Steve Chahal, President of Fairfax
Imaging. “Quick Modules can be customized to
meet intricate business rules without adversely altering
its core software functionality.”
A turn-key solution,
Quick Modules provides faster processing and
increased cost efficiency. By applying the latest in
recognition technologies including OCR, ICR, and CAR/LAR,
the system enables CA DMV to streamline its operations
and increase the productivity of its labor force.
However, the definitive factor in CA DMV’s choice was
Quick Modules’ customizable ability to provide
multi-faceted, data look-ups which result in a variety
of workflow decisions.
“During the public
opening of cost proposals, Fairfax Imaging’s was the
only envelope opened,” said Bill Merritts, V.P.
Government Sales for Fairfax Imaging. “We can only
assume that no other bidder met the requirements.”
Fairfax Imaging, will
accomplish the necessary throughput volume by providing
Opex mail openers and scanners along with multiple
high-end Dell (NasdaqGS:DELL) servers clustered for
redundancy. The entire solution will be supported by a
Cisco (NasdaqGS:CSCO) Catalyst network and the latest
Dell Storage Area Network (SAN) technology with fiber
connections. “We chose the Cisco Catalyst switch
technology because we need to reliably handle the
considerable amount of network traffic,” said Mike
Minter, VP of Sales and Marketing for Fairfax. “In
addition, we designed redundancy into every facet of the
solution. There is no single point of failure.”
Fairfax Imaging’s
solution combines traditional imaging with its well
established Quick Check 21 capability. The system
captures an image of both sides of each check in a
single pass operation. After balance and endorsement,
Quick Check 21 creates an x9.37 file to hold the cash
letter and images of checks to be deposited. Quick
Modules then transmits the file electronically to CA
DMV’s financial institution. This further streamlines
the operation, returning faster, more accurate deposits
and eliminating the cost and time to ship paper checks
to the bank for processing.
