Through the many years of experience developing,
installing, and fielding many image-based systems
worldwide, it has become apparent to Fairfax Imaging
that not all imaging systems are created equal.
In fact, with the same requirements on hand, the
diversity between the various proposed imaging systems
make the difference between a robust system producing
a minimum number of exceptions and one that is constantly
requiring operator assistance. This is particularly
true of systems requiring a heavy amount of data
capture from forms and checks or both.
Based on our experience in forms processing, the
following is a list of features that we believe should
be part of a robust forms processing system, and we
made each and every element on the list a standard
feature of our product.
| Feature |
System
Requirement |
Notes |
| Input
form type |
The
system must process virtually any form. There
should be no need to redesign the forms. This
is especially helpful if you have no control over
these forms (i.e., if the forms that you process
are customer or third party issued). |
Standard
feature of our products |
| Barcode
recognition for form identification |
The
system must work with industry standard barcodes
(3of9, 2of5, Codabar, etc.) and not a proprietary
glyph. |
Standard
feature of our products |
| Form
identification methods |
The
system must possess at least three (3) different
form identification techniques. These are executed
in a hierarchical manner in order to ensure maximum
form identification accuracy. These are:
- Barcode recognition
- Field based recognition (any field on the
form can be used as a recognition target for
the purpose of identifying the form with a
fuzzy logic acceptance)
- Template based for recognition. If neither
of the two method has successfully identified
the form, then this technique used advanced
image processing technology such as template
matching to identify the form.

Standard
feature of our products |
| Workflow |
The
system must be delivered with a powerful workflow
system such as Eastman Kodak* and FileNET*. This
workflow allows the customer to schedule, prioritize,
and route units of work between servers and operators.
This ensures that the priority work gets done
first, and that the work is handled by the appropriate
work teams in a timely manner scheduled in advance.
All this is handled in a dynamically configured
schema under the customer's supervisory and management
control. |
Standard
feature of our products |
| Data
capture and recognition technologies |
The
system must utilize the world's most advanced
recognition engines such as the Mitek, the AEG,
and the Siemens engines. These engines have been
recognized as the world's most advanced recognition
engines and they are also the most expensive engines. |
Standard
feature of our products |
| Cursive
recognition technology |
The
system must feature a cursive recognition engine
for those poorly handwritten fields. Parascript
is the only company in the world currently boasting
a purely cursive recognition engine known as NHR
(Natural Handwriting recognition) technology. |
Standard
feature of our products |
| Key
data correction |
The
system must combine a field based key data correction
technology embedding the ability to perform character
based correction without the limitation of exclusive
character-based correction. |
Standard
feature of our products |
| Rule
based data validation |
All
the rule validation programming is simple and
is available to the customer. All rule programming
is available in the industry accepted and standard
Visual Basic. |
Standard
feature of our products |
| Fuzzy
logic lookup Code |
The
system must be able to provide the user with a
fuzzy logic lookup table with dictionaries based
on the closest match. |
Standard
feature of our products |
| Data
output |
The
system must be delivered standard with the capability
to deliver the output exactly in the format required
by most industry leading enterprise software such
as SAP(r), PeopleSoft(r), etc. |
Standard
feature of our products |
| Image
and data retrieval |
The
system must be delivered with the ability to retrieve
image and data from the database using simple
queries. Quick Modules(r) also allows for the
retrieval of these images on the Internet. |
Standard
feature of our products |
| User
exits |
The
system must be delivered with a number of user
exits through all the processes. These user exits
allow the end user or the integrator (if they
so desire) to customize the system to their specific
needs. These user exits can be programmed using
wizards for simple customizations, or Visual Basic
for more elaborate customizations. |
Standard
feature of our products |
| CD-ROM
and juke box management |
The
system must automatically archive images and data
on CD-ROM and interfaces to juke boxes for retrieval
purposes. |
Standard
feature of our products |
| Data
center monitoring |
The
system must come standard with a 24 by 7 data
center monitoring rules featuring the useful three
color flags for each modules. These are: Green:
Everything ok, Yellow: Non-critical error in the
module, Red: Critical error in the module requiring
immediate system administrator intervention. |
Standard
feature of our products |
| Message
logging |
All
events and procedures in each of the modules inside
the system are logged to centralized log files
that may be perused by the system administrator
for diagnostics purposes. These events are logged
by date and time of the event or the procedure. |
Standard
feature of our products |
| Reports |
The
system must be delivered with a host of productivity
reports. |
